In Pyè Savari, Haiti, access to clean water was once a daily struggle—especially for women and children, who spent hours walking to collect water that was often unsafe to drink. Illness was common, and with limited health care in the region, waterborne diseases could be life-threatening. When challenges arose with a previous water project site in Charettes, FEFEH (the women’s Federation of Saint-Marc) identified Pyè Savari as the next urgent priority. Thanks to FEFEH’s dedication and the support of partners like Alongside Hope, a clean water system is now a reality.

For 21-year-old Berlande (below), a young FEFEH member, the change has been transformative. “Before, there was no drinking water here,” she recalls. “We collected it from a muddy pond where animals drank. Now the water is safe—we use it for everything, and hundreds of people from nearby villages come daily.” With abundant, clean water flowing, Pyè Savari feels alive again. With reliable access to clean water, Berlande and her neighbours can now focus on community priorities and opportunities, knowing this essential need is met.
