At the C-NEW-C in Cap Haitian, the Adult Education Program is about more than just reading and writing. The program also teaches practical skills like sewing! The instructors start with the basics like stem stitches and work their way up to teaching how to make different types of skirts and tops, which they can wear and/or sell. 

Inseul Marline has started the second level of the Alpha Adult Literacy classes. She is excited about the combined learning experience and says, “now being in the level II of the Alpha program helped me a lot and I am able to take measurements and to draw patterns."  

Under the direction of the Haitian Women's Federation in rural St. Marc, a water project is underway which will bring clean water to more than 2,500 in the village of Grand Fond and surrounding area.

Community members collaborated to collect countless branches that were used to construct a HUGE perimeter fence in the valley. The fenced in area will be planted with more than 100 fruit-bearing trees (inc. breadfruit!), reducing erosion and keeping water at the source, while also creating a model garden where sustainable agriculture techniques will be taught and practiced!

In the Dominican Republic, our partners provided regular medical care to 634 patients in 2023, and accompanied 458 patients to laboratory and/or hospital visits.

Accompaniment is extremely important for patients of Haitian descent who face racism, denial of services and risk of deportation when they go on their own (regardless of their actual citizenship status).

An exciting new part of the mobile medical program is leadership workshops being (22 local leaders trained so far!).
