In Barrio 41, Dominican Republic, women entrepreneurs are making an impact on their families and community through expanding their businesses. Women running their own small businesses can achieve financial independence and mothers can adjust their work schedules to better accommodate their families' needs. Rayjon's partner ASCALA enables entrepreneurs in nearby vulnerable communities access seed funding and receive training to grow their small businesses. The program has supported various types of businesses, including salons and small stores, enabling entrepreneurs to expand their inventory and better serve their clients.
One participant (in center photo above) has been able to expand her business further, using the funds and training to build a stall at the front of her property allowing her to sell her fresh empanadas and juices more directly to customers! Junior, friend of Rayjon (in left photo above), can attest to the delicious empanadas soon to be served from her stall!
