Literacy has the ability to change people’s lives, which is why Rayjon is so committed to our Alpha Adult Literacy program. In just 4 years of classes participants go from illiteracy to a grade six level of literacy and numeracy. But the program doesn’t stop there, by incorporating leadership and civil engagement skills, the program supports the development of new leaders in our partner communities. As of October, all Alpha classes in Saint-Marc are using books produced by Mr. Luckner and the Alpha team.

Why do we keep talking about these textbooks?

We have already been singing about these books from the roof tops and we can’t seem to stop! This is because it’s not just about the books. Yes of course owning the rights to our own text books means that we will have reduced costs and be able to work with even more participants. But this is much more than that. The books are local, meaning they take into deeper account for learnings at Rayjon Share Care Haiti, adapting to students needs and cultural knowledge more flexibly. Mr. Luckner shares that he and his team of instructors feel valued and motivated. They are excited and deeply honored to know that the knowledge they’re gaining will be shared with others. This is a clear example of how community-driven efforts, with a strong support system from Rayjon allies like you, can lead to long-lasting and sustainable positive change.
